Strong Foundations - Using collaborative regulatory design to develop a new aged care assessment methodology
Lisa Peterson PSM | Assistant Commissioner Sector Capability, Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, Sydney, Australia
Abstract
The Australian aged care system is undergoing significant reform. This includes a new Aged Care Act, a new regulatory framework and
a strengthened set of aged care Quality Standards (the Standards) – all scheduled for introduction on 1 July 2024.
As the national regulator of aged care, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (Commission), must develop a new methodology
for assessing the compliance and performance of aged care providers against these new Standards.
The Commission is using collaborative regulatory design and constructive stakeholder engagement to shape the assessment methodology
and prepare the aged care sector for the upcoming changes.
