Interventions to improve the impact of menopausal symptoms on working women: A Literature Review

Aim: To identify and assess interventions aimed at improving the negative impacts of menopausal symptoms on work performance and job satisfaction
Introduction
Over the past 25 years, the UK has seen a 14.3% increase in the number of women aged 50+ in full-time employment (1). As more women are navigating menopause while working, it is becoming increasingly important to address its impact on job performance. Many women stated that “having problematic hot flushes at work was associated with intention to stop working” (2), while more than half the women expressed that they had no control of the temperature in their workspace (3). Apart from hot flushes, a UK study found that the most challenging symptoms were poor concentration, tiredness, poor memory, feeling low/depressed and reduced confidence (4). Additionally, there are psychological symptoms brought on by menopause that can have a significant negative impact on productivity and capacity to work (5).
