Title: Spinal Cord Stimulation for Pain Management in Spinal Cord Injury: A State-of-the-Art Review
Introduction
*Chronic pain is common after spinal cord injury (SCI)
*Neuromodulation through spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an effective treatment modality for chronic pain patients
*Growing literature suggests this may also be useful in managing chronic pain for patients with SCI
*However, research on SCS in SCI for chronic pain is limited
Methods
*Using PRISMA Guidelines, a literature search was performed (PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane)
*Inclusion criteria: SCI diagnosis, treatment with SCS, human participant, adult (18+) patient, and quantitative or qualitative outcomes available for pain
Results
*531 Studies were identified
*527 Studies were screened
*23 Full-text reviews
*7 Studies were included in the final analysis
Conclusion
*The literature is limited regarding the use of SCS in SCI for pain management
*SCS has been shown to provide pain relief to patients with chronic pain, and this modality may benefit patientswith chronic pain after SCI
*Additional high-quality research is needed to assess the efficacy of SCS for pain management after SCI
