Title: Novel uses of Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulation
A Case Series
INTRO
•Beginning with the ACCURATE study, DRG has been established as superior to traditional SCS for treating refractory CRPS of the limbs
•These two case reports show that it is also efficacious for treatment of CRPS of the trunk, specifically for groin and scrotum pain unresponsive to traditional therapy.
•
Case 1
•21 year old diagnosed with Red Scrotum Syndrome refractory to all conventional therapy
•Received 80% pain relief with bilateral L1 and S2 DRG implant
•
Case 2
•38 year old with 20 year history of perineal pain only partially relieved by opioids requiring multiple ED visits
•70% relief with bilateral L1 and S2 DRG still ongoing after 6 months with no further ED visits.
DISCUSSION
•The symptoms of CRPS, especially of the trunk, can be highly variable and notoriously difficult to treat effectively
•These case reports show that utilization of DRG stimulation in cases of truncal CRPS can be beneficial to patients when traditional treatments have failed
