Development of a Medically Specific Night Vision Device for Use in Military Operations

Part of Topic

Night vision devices (NVDs) are critical to military operations and may enable life-saving procedures in low-light or blackout environments, but standard systems have optical limitations for medical use. We developed portable, medically optimized NVD prototypes that improve visualization, incorporate autofocus and magnification, and integrate physiologic monitoring and ultrasound within the user’s field of view. Early prototypes demonstrated feasibility for trauma interventions in porcine polytrauma models. Ongoing studies will evaluate device performance in cadaveric and live tissue trauma procedures, with future development focused on integrating peer-to-peer telemedicine connectivity.
