Objective

• To determine the frequency of GDM in females presenting in a tertiary care hospital

• To compare total cholesterol level in females presented with or without gestational diabetes at term

Methodology

• Study Design: Cross-sectional study

• Setting: Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore

• Sample Size: 320 females GDM (6.88%) Non-GDM (93.12%)

• Data Collected: Age, BMI, gestational age, parity, GDM status, total cholesterol level

Results

• Age distribution:- 18–25 yrs: 37.19% (n=119)- 26–35 yrs: 62.81% (n=201)

• Mean age: 26.61 ± 4.06 yrs

• Gestational Age: 37.90 ± 0.80 wks

• BMI: 26.12 ± 3.82

• GDM Frequency: 6.88% (n=22)

• Cholesterol:- GDM: 183.95 ± 5.73 mg/dl- Non-GDM: 165.90 ± 8.91 mg/dl Conclusion

• Frequency of GDM is slightly higher than in developed countries

• GDM patients had significantly higher  total cholesterol level
