Various techniques have been exploredin pursuit of enhancing the clinicalefficacy of local anesthetics (LA) in nerve blocks, including the combinationof LA with short onset to those of longerduration. The aim of such a mixture ispresumably to reduce the sensory blockonset while increasing the duration ofanalgesia. Although the outcome mayseem to be the result of simple math,clinical studies have demonstratedconflicting results. The primaryendpoint of this systematic review wasto estimate the effect sizes for the onsettime of sensory block in regional anesthesia guided by ultrasound whenmixtures of local anesthetics withshorter and delayed onset are combined.Secondarily, we evaluated motor blockonset, duration of analgesia and motor block.
