A wild hyena attack in Ethiopia resulted in a 6-year-old male sustaining a severe loss of orofacial structure, including his nose and anterior maxilla. The patient had an adhesive retained prosthesis that was inadequate as the patient became increasingly more engaged in sports and activities. An adjustable implant-retained framework was placed to retain a nasal prosthesis magnetically. As the patient continues to grow, soft tissue adaptation decreases, consequently affecting retention and esthetics.
Engaging the patient and their family in all steps of treatment is key to case acceptance and prosthesis satisfaction.
While promising, the digital scan did not capture sufficient soft tissue detail for accurate prosthesis fabrication.
