Applying Functionall Generated Path to a Digital Workflow

Statement of Problem: The functionally generated path (FGP) can produce a restoration requiring minimal occlusal adjustment at delivery. However, traditional FGP methods do little to minimize laboratory steps. In traditional methods, a stone core is poured into the FGP record to create an antagonist against which to fabricate the restoration.

Purpose: To adapt the FGP to a digital workflow, a subtractive method was used in which occlusal anatomy was carved chairside, creating a surface that could be scanned and copied in the final restoration.

Materials and Methods: Two molars prepared for crowns. Preparations and interocclusal record scanned intraorally.

Results: Provided a predictable and efficient way of producing occlusal accurate restorations, requiring minimal adjustment at delivery.
