Clinical outcomes of 295 PICC-ports implanted in cancer patients: a retrospective cohort study

This poster presents a retrospective cohort study evaluating the clinical outcomes of PICC-ports implanted in adult cancer patients in a tertiary center. A total of 295 PICC-ports inserted between November 2023 and October 2025 were analyzed following a standardized SIP-Port protocol.

Overall, 72,344 catheter-days were recorded, with a mean device observation time of 245.2 days and a median of 280 days. The most common cancer types were breast, lung, and head and neck cancers. Complication rates were low, including catheter-related thrombosis (4.1%), infection (3.7%), catheter occlusion (3.1%), reservoir flip (1.7%), skin complications (1.7%), and tip malposition (0.7%).

These findings suggest that PICC-ports inserted by trained vascular access specialists using a standardized protocol demonstrate excellent device survival and very low complication rates, supporting their use as a reliable long-term vascular access option in oncology patients.
