COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INTERNAL JUGULAR AND SUPRACLAVIA TECHNIQUES AT H. ADAM MALIK HOSPITAL MEDAN

Part of Topic

Abstract

Introduction : The internal jugular approach and the supracalvicular approach are two of the few venous catheterizations reported in the literature. The supraclavicular approach to central venous catheterization has distinct advantages over the internal jugular approach. The incidence of complications in central venous catheter placement can be reduced by the use of ultrasound. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of installing CVC between the internal jugular and supraclavian techniques using ultrasound on adult patients.

Method : This study uses a quasi-experimental method (quasi-experimental) with a research method that does not use random assignment. With a minimum sample size of 53 samples.

Results: In this study, there were 56 subjects, 28 of whom underwent supraclavicular procedures and 28 of whom underwent internal jugular procedures. In the study using Chi Square, there was no significant relationship between groups with the accuracy of central venous catheter tip depth (p 1,000). But for the analysis of the installation speed, using the Independent T-Test test has a p value of 0.017, meaning it has a p value of 0.05 which means there is a significant difference between the internal jugular and supraclavicular approaches and there was no difference in the incidence of complications in the two approaches.

Conclusion: There are differences in the effectiveness of installing KVS using the internal jugular technique approach, seen from the time that KVS installation is superior to the supraclavicular technique. While the comparison of accuracy and complications did not have a significant difference between the two techniques.

Key Word: CVC, internal jugular approach, supracalvicular approach
