Introduction: In order to further implement the "Regulations on the Administration of Controlled Drugs" formulated by the
Ministry of Health and Welfare: Those who have a controlled drug registration certificate shall set up a book in the
business premises to record the daily income and expenditure, destruction, loss and balance of controlled drugs. We use
the PDCA method to optimize the “point-to-point” sign-in mechanism for drug management in drug trucks, thereby
reducing the registration time and reducing the incidents the replenishment of missing drugs .
Methods: According to the PDCA method, two quality improvement measures were adopted: (1) During the period of
2020/01/01~2022/09/31, analyzed the reasons for the supplementary drug data of controlled drugs, and applied
information improvement needs. We also formulated a “point-to-point” sign-in mechanism for drug management in drug
trucks, then confirmed the effectiveness. (2) Counted the time spent on manual registration in the book, and confirmed
the results after requesting information reports.
Results: (1) Analyzed the reasons for supplementing the shortage of controlled drugs, mainly including the non-receipt of
drugs and the shortage of drugs。Tracked the effectiveness of the “point-to-point” sign-in mechanism for drug
management in drug trucks from 2021/10/01 to 2022/09/10, it was found the number of supplementary medicine
improvement has been significantly reduced by 80% after intervention. (2) After introducing the information report
optimization measures, the time spent on book registration dropped from 18 minutes and 35 seconds to 8 minutes and 10
seconds, a drop of 56.1%.
Conclusion: Using the PDCA method to improve the registration process of controlled drug information reports can
indeed significantly reduce the time spent on manual work. After the implementation of the“point-to-point” sign-in
mechanism for drug management in drug trucks, controlled drugs can be clearly assigned by nursing units, both quality
interventions showed significant improvements.
