INTRODUCTION:
The National Accreditation Organization (ONA) is responsible for the development and management of Brazilian standards of quality and safety in health. Since 1999, ONA has been working for health institutions in Brazil to embrace management and care practices that lead to improve patient care.
AIM:
Analyze the results of accreditation in health care organizations by the Brazilian Accreditation System.
METHOD:
Quantitative analysis of the Brazilian Accreditation System database.
The workflow to evaluation passes through the following steps.
RESULTS:
The Brazilian Accreditation System since it was founded has approved approximately 4.000 certificates, with exactly 1.115 certifications valid until Jun, 2023.
CONCLUSIONS:
If we consider the last year, 2022, it is possible to verify an average annual growth of 25% and an expressive exponential growth since the first certification granted in 2001, with a notable expansion to all regions of Brazil and in the most diverse types of health organizations. The biggest concentration of accredited Brazilian organizations is in the Southeast of the country and has hospitals as the main reference in the implementation of ONA’s standards. It can be explained due to the economic status that this region and this type of organization have in the country.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT:
In addition to the complexity that is the essence of the health system, Brazil has five different regions with their own characteristics, cultures, and diversities. ONA’s methodology has allowing the entry of the most different profiles, size and complexity of organizations and health services. Currently, ONA’s methodology certifies all levels of health care in Brazil and organizations that provide health services are eligible, regardless of their characteristics.
