Introduction:
Information density is high in the health sector. For this reason, it is among the potential service sectors where complex and innovative information technologies can be applied. Reducing waste and increasing efficiency in the health sector is a global problem and technological developments are used in its solution. In material management, information must be provided accurately, completely and in real time. Automatic recognition systems are used to provide this information. The importance of the Radio Frequency Identification System (RFID), which is one of these recognition systems, is increasing day by day. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the effect of RFID technology use in the health sector on the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of stock management in terms of health professionals and to determine its importance in health management.
Method:
The universe of the research consists of 21 private and public hospitals serving in Ankara. A questionnaire was applied to hospital managers who voluntarily participated in the research to measure their awareness of RFID technology and the place and importance of RFID usage on stock management (Figure 1). SPSS 28.0 statistical program was used and interpreted in the analysis of the survey data.
Results:
While 52.4% of the participants were aware of RFID technology, 47.6% stated that they were not. 19% of the participants stated that RFID technology is used in their hospitals, and 81% stated that RFID technology is not used. In the interviews with the participating health institution managers; stated that the application of RFID technology within the scope of safe, efficient and effective management of stock management in hospitals is a priority of 68.1% and a priority of 31.9% in their views on giving priority to material management (Table 1).
Conclusion:
The use of RFID technology in many areas such as devices, drugs, materials and equipment is increasing rapidly. It will provide many advantages such as improving and developing processes, increasing safety, efficiency and quality by including this innovative application in the systems as soon as possible.
