Introduction: Incident reporting is an effective strategy used to enhance patient safety and quality improvement in
healthcare. The Institute of Medicine has identified in 1999 that patient safety as a critical concern in health care
organizations and an essential first step in enhancing quality of care.
In Mongolia, patient safety is a relatively new field and the government has begun to pay attention to the issue since
2010. The Mongolian Japan Hospital of Mongolian National University of medical science is the first university hospital in
Mongolia. It started its activity in October 2019 and started working at full capacity in January 2021. University hospital
need to provide high-quality of care services compared to other hospitals, therefore we need to provide fully ensuring the
safety of the patient. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether our hospital has a patient safety culture and which
medical professional is reporting more incidents.
Methods: We studied incidence type and the cases registered in our hospital between January 1st 2021 to December 31st
2022 by retrospective research method and statistical processing was done using SPSS-23 and Microsoft office excel
2018 program.
Results: Total number of national incident report and it is percentage and incidence rate of Mongolian Japan Hospital-
Mongolian National University of Medical sciences, In 2020, our hospital reported 116 (9.3%) cases out of a total of 1244
cases, 124 (9.9%) cases out of 1490 cases in 2021, and 62 (36.2%) cases out of 171 cases in the first half of 2022.
Although the number of sentenital and adverse events was low in 2021, this number has almost tripled in 2022. This may
be due to the fact that many high-risk procedures such as neurosurgery, angiography etc. are associated with the
introduction of surgical treatment that requires more skills will begin in 2022.
Conclusion: To conclude from all of the above, although customer safety is a young field in Mongolia, we can see the
culture of customer safety is starting to settle in our hospital, which is only our hospital accounted for 10.49% of the
incidents registered nationwide between the 2020 and first half of 2022. can be seen.
However, we still need to do more work to promote that culture, provide training on incident reporting and incident
response to ensure customer safety, and identify the next level of research.
