Cosmetic results after totally endoscopic cardiac surgery
Introduction
As the results of endoscopic cardiac surgery improve, cosmetic implications become
more important in the evaluation of these procedures.
Methods
In this single-center prospective study, the cosmetic results of 80 patients who
underwent totally endoscopic cardiac surgery between November 2022 and April 2023
were evaluated. The scars were assessed using the SCAR Scale at postoperative day 1, day
14 and day 30.
SCAR Scale
Patient reported
➢ Pain
➢ Itch
➢ Patient satisfaction (0 to 10)
Physician reported
➢ Scar Spread
➢ Erythema
➢ Dyspigmentation
➢ Suture Marks
➢ Hyperthrophy/Atrophy
➢ Overal Impression
(0 best score, 15 worst score)
Conclusion
Favorable outcomes regarding scar formation with a low SCAR score below three were observed. In general, patients who underwent
endoscopic cardiac surgery were satisfied with the cosmetic outcomes. More comparative studies should be performed to gain more knowledge and further
improve scar healing .
