Development of a simple and sensitive method for trace-level fluoride detection for healthcare, industrial, and environmental applications.
A DNA fluoride aptamer derived from an RNA fluoride riboswitch was selected as the recognition element to obtain the desired selectivity and a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy-based method was chosen to obtain the desired sensitivity for trace-level detection.
As the SERS substrate, Silver nanoparticles were chosen because they possess the highest reported SERS enhancement.
A linear relationship between the fluoride concentration and the Methylene Blue SERS peak around 1600 cm-1 for fluoride concentrations, within the range of 80 to 120 pM with an R2 value of 0.98.
