Paresthesia After Administration of Suzetrigine
•Suzetrigine is a novel non-opioid analgesic for acute pain.•It selectively blocks the NaV1.8 channel in peripheral nociceptive neurons.
•In clinical trials, the most common side effects were headache and constipation.
•A 48-year-old was seen POD 45 after an ulnar-shortening osteotomy for congenital ulnar abutment syndrome.
Suzetrigine was trialed due to insufficient pain control and side effects with a multimodal regimen
•Approximately 45 minutes after the loading dose, she began to experience “pins and needles” sensations in extremities.
•All symptoms subsided 18 hours later.
•MOA may be similar to topiramate, another sodium channel blocker often associated with paresthesia.
•Additional cases may demonstrate a relationship between suzetrigine and paresthesia.
