Use of 8% Capsaicin Patch in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Secondary to Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor
Nerve sheath tumors, including schwannomas and neurofibromas, present significant chronic pain management challenges due to a complex interplay of mechanical and inflammatory injury eventually leading to peripheral and central sensitization. Conventional approaches to treating neuropathic pain associated with nerve sheath tumors include multimodal medication management, physical therapy, and surgical intervention. Here we report the clinical experience of a patient with refractory complex regional pain syndrome due to nerve sheath tumors of the foot treated with a Qutenza (8% capsaicin) patch.
