Psilocybin Use in Managing a Case of Refractory CRPS
Introduction:
•Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is characterized by persistent, disproportionate pain, primarily following an inciting injury
•CRPS remains challenging to treat, especially when refractory to both conventional and interventional therapies
•Recent interest in psychedelics for pain management has led to exploring their potential use for CRPS
Mechanism:
•Remains unclear
•Cortical 5HT2a receptor agonism
•Modulate neuroplastic cortical changes
Conclusion:
•Psychedelics has shown promise for chronic pain management
•This case is the second case of Psychedelic use in CRPS
Psilocybin is a potential alternative for CRPS patients unresponsive to conventional treatments. Further research is needed on efficacy, safety, dosing and mechanism of action
