Advancing Artificial Intelligence in Digital Impressions: Enhancing Accuracy and Workflow in Edentulous Maxillary Arch Scanning

Part of Topic

Original Research

In this research, we compared AI-enabled (Smart Stitching ON) and AI-disabled (Smart Stitching OFF) intraoral scans of the edentulous maxilla (Medit i700; n=10 per group, total n=20) against a laboratory control (Medit T710). Accuracy was measured using CloudCompare RMS deviation (trueness and precision), with color-coded deviation maps (0–2 mm) and histograms. AI-disabled showed lower RMS and a narrower spread (higher precision). Workflow analysis included scan time and rescans. AI-disabled intraoral scanning demonstrated superior accuracy and greater workflow reliability for fully edentulous maxillary arch.
