Prediction Of Dentoskeletal Malocclusion In Non-syndromic Cleft Lip And Palate
Part of Topic
Craniofacial/Peds
Introduction
Cranial base morphology completes development at an early age, influencing the final position of the maxilla and mandible
Facial growth patterns in unaffected individuals can be predicted using morphometrics (lab data, unpublished)
Skeletal malocclusion (SM) in non-syndromic cleft lip and palate (nsCLP) may not be an exclusive result of the cleft or its surgical repair
Cleft and malocclusion are complex traits that share genetic and environmental factors and may present as a combined phenotype
Hypothesis
The malocclusion phenotype can be predicted before puberty in individuals with nsCLP
