Introduction
Information booklets for pregnant patients with gestational and one for those with Type 1/2 diabetes were distributed for patients to learn about their healthcare journey. Patients that are pregnant with gestational, Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes have more contact with healthcare professionals in an MDT (1). They require further support and explanation on the management and complications of their condition.
Objectives
The booklets were given as a pilot to ensure material contains appropriate detail and assess patients’ feelings for future distribution.
Method
19 patients were asked to complete a primary survey after talking through information booklets. Patients ranked 14 statements from strongly agree to strongly disagree. A follow up telephone survey was conducted asking the correct answer out of three choices; 15 completed this.
Results
86.5% of responses were ‘strongly agree’ or ‘agree’ in the primary survey on a "likert-type scale" (2). 76.2% of the secondary survey answered correctly. All participants stated that the information booklets were helpful. Some patients would prefer to have a map of the clinic and faces of the health-care team in the booklets.
Conclusion
Overall, the aim of the service evaluation to assess the quality of the information booklet was achieved. There was overall positive feedback from patients which was supported by the correct answers in the secondary survey. The patients’ feedback indicated the booklets should be available in multiple health boards.
