Background:

•One in six children has a psychiatric diagnosis.

•However, the psychiatric impact on childhood hand injury has yet to be described.

•This study characterized the risk factors for pediatric hand trauma among patients with psychiatric comorbidities.

Methods:

•1311 patients had hand trauma from 2010-2020.

•Retrospective review was conducted.

•Binomial regression used for relative risks.

Conclusions:

•This represents one of the largest reported cohorts in pediatric hand trauma to date.

•Pediatric hand trauma patients with psychiatric comorbidities were more likely to be adolescent African Americans from lower income households.

•Patients with psychiatric comorbidities were more likely to be injured by violent mechanisms.
