Enhancing the Pass Rate of National Examination for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists

INTRODUCTION:

To safeguard and uphold the working rights of anesthesia nurses in Taiwan, the Ministry of Health and Welfare officially launched the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Training and Examination System in 2020. The pass rate for our hospital was only 59.32%, lower than the national average.

Therefore, we employed a series of teaching strategies to improve the pass rate of National Examination for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.

AIM:

Enhancing the Pass Rate of National Examination for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.

METHOD:

 1. Provide comprehensive anesthesia nursing education and training to strengthen candidates' theoretical abilities.

2. Introduce training related to Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and organize scenario-based simulation exams with designed teaching materials to train candidates in critical thinking and clinical response skills.

3. Two weeks before the exam, incorporate oral exams directly into real-life clinical situations, with anesthesiologists posing questions to increase candidates' practice opportunities.

RESULTS:

The pass rate for our hospital's certified registered nurse anesthetist exam increased to 88.5%, surpassing the national average. Our hospital is committed to nurturing professional talents in anesthesia nursing. Leveraging this successful experience, it has been included in standardized training courses.

For two consecutive years, the pass rate for our hospital's certified registered nurse anesthetist exam has reached 100%. As of 2024, 95% of our hospital's staff are qualified as certified registered nurse anesthetists, enabling us to provide high-quality anesthesia safety care for surgical patients and showcasing the value of certified registered nurse anesthetists.

The successful implementation of these improvement strategies has significantly enhanced the professional capabilities of anesthesia nurses in our hospital, leading to a remarkable increase in the pass rate of the certified registered nurse anesthetist exam. This success demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in anesthesia nursing care, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care quality in our institution.

CONCLUSIONS:

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs). Our hospital is dedicated to continuously enhancing their professional capabilities to cultivate advanced clinical nursing talents who meet the professional and clinical needs of anesthesia care.

By doing so, we aim to improve the safety of surgical patients and the quality of anesthesia care, thereby demonstrating the value of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.
