Diabetic wounds are difficult to heal because of high blood glucose, oxidative stress, poor oxygen supply, and increased infection risk. These conditions delay tissue repair and make wound management more challenging. Plant-based zinc oxide nanoparticles offer a promising approach because they combine the therapeutic advantages of Zinc oxide with the natural antioxidant compounds present in Euphorbia hirta.
In this study, Zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using aqueous and ethanolic extracts (50% and 100%) of Euphorbia hirta and evaluated for their antioxidant properties. The nanoparticles were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, and XRD to confirm nanoparticle formation, functional group involvement, and crystalline structure. Antioxidant activity was assessed using the DPPH radical scavenging assay over time, and the results showed that the nanoparticles exhibited notable free radical scavenging potential.
The findings suggest that Euphorbia hirta-mediated Zinc oxide nanoparticles may be a sustainable and biocompatible candidate for diabetic wound healing applications. Further studies on antibacterial activity, cytotoxicity, and wound healing performance in biological models are recommended before clinical use.
