CareResponse: A Collaborative Digital Ecosystem for Nonpharmacologic Support and Behavioral Analysis in Memory Care Centers

Background: Residents in specialized memory care centers experience complex behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). While nonpharmacologic interventions are the clinical gold standard, frontline staff frequently lack real-time tools to translate observations into actionable care plans. Furthermore, facilities often lack centralized systems to track behavioral trends or share successful de-escalation strategies among interdisciplinary teams.
Methods: We developed CareResponse, a multi-dimensional digital platform designed for professional use within memory care facilities. The system utilizes a hybrid architecture that combines a searchable database of 60+ validated behaviors with a constrained AI "Protocol Engine." This engine allows staff to input specific resident situations and generate a standardized CareResponseProtocol featuring:

      1)

Care-Plan Interventions:

    Actionable redirection and environmental strategies.
      2)

Staff Training Points:

    On-the-spot coaching for de-escalation.
      3)

Charting-Language Examples:

Professional documentation templates to streamline electronic health record (EHR) entry.

Unique to this platform is a Collaborative Card System, allowing staff to save generated protocols as "Staff Cards" for internal facility use or "Community Cards" for broader knowledge sharing. The system also includes an Analysis Dashboard for monitoring behavioral query trends and a Card Customizer that enables adjusting font sizes and high-contrast themes for visually impaired staff members. This tool was tested by two geriatricians.
Results: Preliminary testing by the Tele-Geriatric Research Fellowship demonstrated that the platform generates clinically aligned protocols in under three seconds. The tool effectively standardized documentation across diverse scenarios, such as repetitive motor behaviors and delusional thinking. The accessibility features ensured usability across a multi-generational workforce, while the dashboard provided administrators with real-time insights into frequent facility-wide triggers.
Conclusion:CareResponse demonstrates a scalable framework for operationalizing expert-level dementia care. By integrating real-time de-escalation, collaborative protocol sharing, and behavioral analytics, the tool supports both frontline caregivers and facility leadership in reducing the reliance on psychotropic medications while improving care continuity.
