BACKGROUND
According to Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), 60% of people with dementia live in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), a figure projected to reach 71% by 2050.
The 10/66 study reports a dementia prevalence of approximately 12% in the Caribbean, among the highest in Latin America, where rates range.
Despite this burden, awareness among healthcare professionals remains low.
In the Dominican Republic, primary care physicians (PCP) are the first point of contact for individuals with cognitive complaints, yet they often lack adequate training in dementia diagnosis and management.
