Part of Topic
This poster presents a community-based hearing screening and counseling study within BRAIN-FIT, focused on hearing health as a modifiable dementia risk factor. In a mixed-methods study of older adults in rural communities, participants completed hearing, cognitive, and participation screenings, received brief individualized counseling, and completed follow-up interviews 2–4 weeks later. After the screening, 55.7% of participants reported taking action related to their hearing health, including seeking audiology referrals, using communication strategies, or increasing awareness of hearing needs. The findings suggest that brief, personalized, community-embedded counseling may support hearing-related behavior change and help address modifiable ADRD risk factors in older adults.
