Activity Monitoring in Dementia: Transforming Sensor Data into Clinically Meaningful Insights
This poster presents a suite of digital tools developed within the Minder platform to support remote monitoring of people with dementia in their activities of daily living. Activity Monitoring uses in-home sensors to identify functional issues, safety risks, and changes in daily routines over time, supporting timely assessment and intervention from support services including occupational therapists. The Minder Activities & Routines algorithm analyses sensor data to detect changes in everyday activities and routines and translates complex sensor outputs into clinically interpretable summaries. A Clinical Report provides individualised visualisations of activity patterns, occupancy, door usage, bed occupancy, and kitchen appliance use. An Anomalous Event Alerts algorithm identifies prolonged absence of activity from key locations within the home. The Effects on Activity algorithm uses statistical time-series analysis to quantify changes in activity following clinically relevant events and interventions. Results demonstrate measurable changes in activity patterns associated with clinical, social, and functional events, highlighting the potential of remote monitoring technologies to support proactive dementia care and clinical decision-making.
