A Live Look At The Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy And Parenchymal Puncta Within The 5x/E4 Mouse

 

We performed live multi-photon imaging of the cortical region of an 8 month old 5x/E4 mouse. Unlike the traditional 5xFAD mouse, this model accumulates amyloid along the vasculature and, while rare in most humans and not seen in some other animal models such as the APP or APP/PS1 mice, along the capillaries  immediately adjacent to the larger amyloid-covered arterioles. dextran dye (red) and amyloid labeled with methoxy-X04 (blue). Autofluorescent lipofuscin is also present in the background (green). The lower left region shows amyloid-covered capillaries branching off the main arteriole, also covered in amyloid.
