Arts-based Memory CafιS As Participatory Infrastructures For Dementia-inclusive Communities
Part of Topic
Contemporary dementia care frameworks emphasize clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing support. While these pillars are essential, significant challenges remain, including social isolation, stigma, fragmented service delivery, and limited awareness of available community resources. Howard Feldman's Challenge to Canadians (2017) called for compassionate, fully supportive communities for people living with dementia. International work led by Giovanni Frisoni and the University of Geneva, published in The Lancet, has further demonstrated the value of dementiafriendly community development. However, community engagement is rarely conceptualized as a structured intervention within existing dementia care frameworks.
