Introduction:

•Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) research has gained significant momentum in recent years due to the increasing global burden of dementia.
•Whilst AD research has been studied extensively, no bibliometric analysis has yet been conducted on the European landscape specifically.
•This study aims to fill this gap, using bibliometric methods.

Methods:

•A bibliometric analysis was performed using the Scopus database on AD research published between 2020-2025.
•Data on publication year, citation count, journal impact factor, author details and funding sources were extracted.
•Author affiliations and country contributions were also assessed to evaluate the breadth of research in the field.

Results:

> 8029 articles

> Overall increase in publications; surges in 2021 and 2025.

> Leading countries: UK, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Italy

> Leading institution: University College London (UK)

> Highest numeric output: Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease (k = 558).

> Frequent keywords: “Alzheimer Disease”, “Amyloid Beta Protein”, “Tau Protein”

> Prominent funding sources: Alzheimer's Association, Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, European Commission, Vetenskapsrådet.

Conclusions:

•In conclusion, Alzheimer’s Disease research in Europe has seen significant growth between 2020-2025.
•The analysis highlighted key institutions and journals for their contributions.
•Prominent funding from organizations like Horizon 2020 and the Alzheimer’s Association has played a crucial role in advancing both clinical and fundamental research.
