INTRODUCTION

This study had provided information about the effectiveness of online method of teaching system as adopted by our course. The main objective is to explore in numerical terms whether student’s performance in online course is comparable to in class teaching or not

METHODS:

It was a cohort retrospective case control study. A total of 123 students had Obstetrics and Gynecology course delivered online compared to control group of 115 students who had the same course onsite.

RESULTS: The measured outcomes were overall students’ marks and grades, performance in relation to gender and attendance rates.

Overall students’ grades and attendance were higher in online group (P = 0.004 & P = 0.0001, respectively) which is more evident in male students (P = 0.009). In male students, table 4 shows significantly higher students have got above-average grades and lower students had below-average grades in online teaching in comparison to onsite teaching with overall P=0.009. On the other hand, in female students (Table 5) the difference in students’ grades was not significantly different among both groups of study.
There were no significant differences between male and female performances in both groups of study (P> 0.05)

CONCLUSION: This study had provided information about the effectiveness of online method of teaching system as adopted by our course.

Students’ performance and overall attendance is better in online compared to face- to -face teaching. Researchers might recommend continuation of hybrid teaching even after end of Covid-19 pandemic.
This will help policy makers in finalizing their decisions for future studies. This pattern will be very useful for clinical courses like Obstetrics and Gynecology.
