Abstract

Nowadays, patients have become increasingly concerned about esthetics, and hypodontia or microdontia will typically create anterior teeth spacing which mostly affect the smile of the patient. An Interdisciplinary approach for the treatment of different developmental anomalies of permanent lateral incisors has to be considered and executed. A two cases with different developmental anomalies (Pig shaped and congenitally missing lateral incisors) were presented to prosthodontic clinic after orthodontic treatment has taken place.

Case #1 of A 24-year-old female healthy patient, clinical examination revealed a disharmonious smile caused by abnormal tooth shape and size of the upper anterior teeth including bilateral peg-shaped lateral incisors that were restored with composite restoration to close the anterior spaces after orthodontic alignment. A treatment plan to restore esthetic through laminate veneers was selected.

Case #2 of A 16-year-old female healthy patient presented with generalized spacing in the upper arch associated with congenitally missing lateral incisors bilaterally. The interdisciplinary treatment combining orthodontic alignment, narrow diameter implant (NDI) placement and implant supported crowns was provided.

Porcelain laminate veneers provides a superior esthetic and good match in terms of color, form and surface characters. The amount of available bone determines the selection of implant body design and diameter, narrow diameter implant appear to have similar survival rate compared to those of regular diameter implants.

Conclusion: Selecting the appropriate treatment modalities for anterior teeth spacing caused by hypodontia and microdontia requires careful consideration of the treatment options and a multidisciplinary approach to provide long-term success and high esthetic result.
