A00 Introduction of Ferinject for use in anaemia management in a district general hospital maternity unit
Introduction: We introduced Ferinject (ferric carboxymaltose) to form part of the management of peripartum anaemia in November 2015. This was to replace a previously used antenatal intravenous iron preparation which had to be administered multiple times in smaller doses. We also wanted to introduce the concept of using intravenous iron post partum to reduce our incidence of blood transfusion. We audited all women receiving Ferinject, looking at the change in haemoglobin and any side effects experienced. This poster shows the result of the first 85 patients treated with Ferinject from late 2015 to early 2017.
