Reducing Nosocomial Infections
Kelly M. McCormick
Germs do not move. They spread by contact between a source and susceptible person; pathogen contaminated surfaces (fomites) spread diseases (Lei, Jones & Li, 2017). Appropriately cleaning high risk surfaces in patient rooms and medical equipment utilized for multiple patients is critical to reducing nosocomial infections.
The purpose of this quality improvement project is to decrease disease transmission by designing and implementation of a checklist for nursing staff when preparing rooms for admissions to ensure high risk surfaces have been appropriately cleaned.
