Title: Integration of patient engagement in quality improvement: What managers actually do?
Context: In western Europe and in North America, patient engagement (PE) has become central to efforts to improve healthcare quality. The last few years, Canadian health care authorities and accreditation bodies have defined guidelines and standards that make PE a core strategy to achieve high quality in healthcare settings. In that context, healthcare organizations started to implement PE as part of their quality improvement (QI) activities and structures.
Objectives: The main research objective was to understand how hospital managers integrate PE into QI activities and structures : 1- What are the different models to integrate PE in QI activities and structures ? 2- What types of practices hospital managers develop, at different levels of management, to integrate PE in QI ?
