Patient-centered outcomes after totally endoscopic cardiac surgery: one year follow-up
Introduction
Health-related quality of life allows for a better understanding of how surgery affects the patient’s health. There is a scarcity of prospective data on patient-centred results of totally endoscopic techniques.
Methods
In this single-center cohort study, 195 patients underwent totally endoscopic cardiac surgery between November 2019 and October 2020. Quality of life was determined through the 36-Item Short Form Survey. A physical and mental component score is calculated based on a reference population of patients with ischemic heart disease.
Conclusion: Endoscopic cardiac surgery significantly improves the health-related quality of life until 90 days post-surgery and it remains high one year afterward.
