Introduction & objective
During endoscopic evaluation of the bladder, no direct histopathologic information can be obtained. Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy (CLE) is a high-resolution optical imaging technique that allows for real-time high resolution microscopic images.
Objective: to evaluate our initial experience of confocal laser endomicroscopy for bladder cancer diagnosis
Results
38 tumours
▪ 6 Benign
▪ 19 Low-grade UC
▪ 11 High-grade UC
▪ 2 Carcinoma in Situ
Conclusion
• Interobserver agreement for CLE based diagnosis for bladder tumours is substantial (84%, κ=0.74)
• Concordance between CLE based diagnosis and histopathology is moderate (74%, κ=0.58)
• CLE images provide information on histopathologic features and could potentially enable real-time tumour grading during cystoscopy
