Target Audience / Educational Goals
Target Audience:
Radiology residents at any level
After viewing this exhibit, participants should:
•Be familiar with basic applications of ultrasound in musculoskeletal imaging
•Understand the advantages of ultrasound versus other imaging modalities
•Recognize key anatomic landmarks on normal and abnormal ultrasound cases
•Diagnose a wide variety of musculoskeletal pathologies
•Relatively recent advances in technology have enhanced the utility of ultrasound and expanded its application in the imaging of musculoskeletal pathologies.
•Ultrasound provides several unique advantages compared to other modalities.
•These advantages make ultrasound essential in the everyday practice of musculoskeletal radiology.
•It is therefore crucial to learn how to wield this highly effective tool.
•This exhibit covers a variety of musculoskeletal pathologies diagnosed with ultrasound.
•Examples, grouped by anatomic location:
–Shoulder: tendinosis, calcific tendinosis, rotator cuff tear
–Elbow: lateral epicondylitis, biceps tendon tear, ulnar nerve dislocation
–Wrist and Hand: carpal tunnel syndrome, Gamekeeper thumb, inflammatory arthritis
–Hip: joint effusion, snapping hip syndrome
  –Knee: joint effusion
–Ankle and Foot: Achilles tendon tear, peroneal tendon subluxation, ligament tear, Morton neuroma
•Normal examples accompany abnormal cases, highlighting key anatomy and demonstrating normal sonographic features.
