Acute Pain Service Resident Handbook

The transition for anesthesia residents into the acute pain

service (APS) rotations can come with challenges due to the

intricacies and knowledge required on this service.

Residents can be faced with the task of managing complex

pain patients, along with issues arising from peripheral

nerve catheters, epidurals and various pain medication

infusions.

Lack of knowledge and experiences with these issues can

not only negatively affect residents' confidence in these

areas, but can also lead to inefficiencies in patient care.

This Quality Improvement (QI) project aims to enhance the

introduction of anesthesia residents to the APS service by

implementing a standardized resident handbook
