Implementation of electronic medical records in outpatient clinics: patient and physician perspective

Electronic health record is essential for improving patient safety. Hospitals and health care providers are implementing EHRs rapidly in response to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The unique safety risks posed by the use of EHRs should be considered alongside the potential benefits of these systems.

The goal of our study is to compare patient and physician perception of use of EMR in the outpatient setting. The study was conducted 1 year after complete transition to EMR in the outpatient setting at Henry Ford Hospital.
