Taking a Leap of Faith – Using a New Bio-cellulose Product to Stimulate Wound Healing
It is estimated that there are approximately 2.2 million wounds in the UK¹ with the majority of these being cared for as part of a community nurse’s workload. Delayed wound healing increases the burden on an already stretched NHS budget¹. It also has a negative effect on patients’ quality of life (QOL)².
Use of wound products that encourage improved wound healing, especially in wounds that have become static, can reduce costs, nursing time and improve patient QOL. A new bio-cellulose membrane dressing and wound gel that mimics the body’s own stem cells and improves wound healing³ was chosen to evaluate on a patient with a long-term difficult to heal wound.
