Stimulating a Chronic Wound in a Patient with Pyoderma Gangrenosum
There are a number of conditions widely acknowledged as leading patients to have ‘difficult to heal’ wounds. In some instances, the failure to heal with conventional therapies leads these wounds to be managed palliatively. Patients with pyoderma gangrenosum are one such group who often present extra challenges for healing. Pyoderma gangrenosum is an ulcerative neutrophilic disease affecting the skin which is rare, the pathogenesis of which is often misunderstood. It can cause chronic non-healing wounds which are often misdiagnosed¹.
